A year later, there are additional options for an easy, bootable OS X installation disk.

Users of OS X Lion or Mountain Lion can use the free Lion DiskMaker app to automate the disk creation process.

In a few weeks, users will have an additional outlet for an install tool: Apple's OS X Recovery Disk Assistant. This tool creates a bootable USB drive for users who need to install a fresh copy of OS X on a drive. The current version of the tool only supports OS X Lion, but we expect that a Mountain Lion update will appear in a few weeks.

The great thing about the Recovery Disk Assistant is that it also gives users the option to restore a computer from a Time Machine backup.
