This article provides information about the compatibility of Norton AntiSpam and email scan feature with Microsoft Outlook and Windows Mail application.

Norton AntiSpam compatibility with Microsoft Outlook

When connected to Avast SecureLine VPN, you may experience problems while trying to send emails from email client, such as Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird or Apple Mail (Mac). Avast SecureLine VPN has no impact on email behavior if you access your.

Norton AntiSpam does not support the Outlook application that is downloaded from Microsoft store.

• Norton AntiSpam is compatible with the following versions of Microsoft Outlook.

  • POP3 with SSL is not supported.

  • IMAP & Exchange accounts are not supported.

  • If email client is configured in ports other than default ports 110, then the new port needs to be added to protected ports.

1. Start Norton.

   If you see the My Norton window, next to Device Security, click Open.

2. Click Settings.

3. In the Settings window, click AntiSpam.

4. On the Filter tab, next to Protected Ports, click Configure.

5. In the Protected Ports window, click Add.

6. In Add Port to protect window, select the Port Type and type in the Port number. Click OK.

7. Click Apply, and then click OK.

All three tiers of Avast Business Antivirus—Antivirus, Pro, and Pro Plus—contain an anti-spam plugin that can be used in Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird. (Applies to Windows workstations and Windows servers only.)

4 Steps total

Step 1: Enable Anti-spam in the Avast Business settings template

When you create a new Settings Template in Avast Business, in the administration console, Anti-spam is enabled by default.

If it’s not enabled, simply click the switch to on and apply the changes in the template (this may require a reboot on affected clients)

Lots of settings that can be configured by admins in the Anti-spam module, such as how messages are marked, whether (Outlook only) marked messages are automatically moved to Junk, and the sensitivity of the filter.
You can edit these settings by clicking the “Customize” link next to the Anti-spam function in the Settings Template, and the changes will be applied to all clients in the settings template.

Step 3: Apply the changes to the Settings Template

Once you've configured Anti-spam in the template and it's enabled, you need to Apply the changes before they take. Once this is complete, the changes will push to the clients in the template.

Step 4: Ensure the plugin is installed on client machines

After Avast Business is installed and the settings template is updated, the machines may require a reboot to confirm the changes. Once this is complete, the plugin should be available for use.
In Microsoft Outlook, a control for the add-in will show in the Ribbon -- this may require a restart of Outlook to show, and if it's not showing it can be enabled in COM Add-ins.

The control in Outlook gives users the ability to whitelist/blacklist senders as well as send spam/not spam feedback.
